“Think of something that you can do as opposed to all the things you can’t do – and do that.” – Kathleen Hanna
Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of Bikini Kill and LeTigre has been, is a hero, a woman I admired so much in my younger years: who shaped the way I’ve done things, how I founded TQU and how I approached the world.
She’s been an inspiration to me like no other. Showing me and so many girls and women growing up, that all you need is a strong will to change the world around you.
No money? A society that doesn’t respect women? No matter where you are, you can turn things around, if you’re brave enough to speak up for yourself. Even when you don’t really know who you are.
She is one of the founders of the riot grrrl movement, she was one of the first people talking about sexism in punk and alternative scenes, and she got the ball rolling for lasting change.
So today I’d like to ask: What is it that you can do?
Let’s get things started!
